Microsuction Technique and Safety Assurance
Hearology is one of only a handful of Audiologists in the country to have their services externally validated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to assure rigorous safety, hygiene and clinical quality standards.
The CQC regularly inspects health and social care providers to ensure they meet required quality and safety standards. Surprisingly, however, CQC regulation is optional for the ear cleaning sector in the UK. We chose voluntary CQC inspections to validate our high standards in safety, hygiene, and clinical quality. Unlike many providers, we chose to meet CQC’s standards to show our commitment to quality and safety.

State-of-the-art Equipment
To increase the safety and comfort of your experience, Hearology only uses ENT surgical binocular microscopes.
These microscopes give our specialists the detailed view needed to work precisely in the small space of the ear canal. Most ear clinics only use magnifying goggles, which are less accurate due to lower detail and no 3D vision.
We are also one of the few to use ENT-grade suction units, which are quieter and safer. They offer more controlled suction compared to standard portable units. We use sterile, single-use tubes and suction tips to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and patient safety.

Please note, we don’t reduce the price to “consultation-only” if no blockage is found. This is because it’s important to investigate the causes of any perceived blockage. We carry out this investigation with our Ear Health Consultation service, the price of which remains at £89.
In rare occasions, it may not be possible to fully clean your ears in the first session. This is usually because of stubborn wax or sensitivity. In these cases, you can schedule a free follow-up within two weeks of your initial appointment.
We charge the same price whether we treat one ear or both. Hearology does not offer a single-ear-only price. We prepare to clean both ears and schedule appointments accordingly. At Hearology, we charge the same price even if only one ear needs cleaning, which can sometimes be the case.

If There’s No Microscope, Then It’s Not Microsuction
The microsuction technique derives its name from the use of a microscope to carry out the procedure. The use of a microscope is important. Not just because of the extreme visual detail, but also the depth-of-field awareness it provides.
Without this depth-of-field awareness, it is challenging for the clinician to judge the location of the eardrum. Only by using an ENT-grade microscope is it possible to carry out the microsuction procedure safely. This is why Hearology only uses ENT-grade microscopes – not goggles like most others do.

Terms and Conditions
Consent to treatment is mandatory. Mask wearing is optional. Please let us know if you have an eardrum perforation, grommets or any specific requirements, e.g. wheelchair access or, for healthcare insurance purposes, clinician registration details – if you are going to claim the cost of your appointment back on insurance, it’s crucial to confirm beforehand that your Hearology clinician’s registration status matches the requirements of your insurer. All balance, tinnitus and children’s ear cleaning appointments must be prepaid. All other services are payable upon completion. We do not issue invoices for later payment. We have a zero tolerance approach towards both lateness and abuse. Ear cleaning appointments can be rearranged up to 24 hours beforehand, all other appointments up to 72 hours beforehand. Rearrangements of any form/for any reason within the 24/72-hour period – including for free appointments – will require pre-payment for a non-refundable, non-exchangeable appointment next time. Cash and card payments including AmEx are accepted. There is no special price for ‘one-ear-only’ or ‘no wax’ appointments. If there is no actual blockage, we conduct an Ear Health Consultation to understand the cause of the perceived blockage. An additional charge applies for our Ear Infection Treatment/Prescription service and also for our Foreign Body Removal service – the latter applies if the ear canal blockage is caused by anything other than wax, skin débris or infection discharge. Unless marketing consent is given, we retain personal information for continuity of medical care only. We will delete all your personal information from our system immediately if you so request. We do not store any payment data.

Why microsuction?
The microsuction technique stands out as the safest, most comfortable, and quickest method for ear wax removal. We do not utilise outdated ear syringing, oil treatments, or Hopi ear candles. These methods have proven to be both ineffective and potentially harmful.
Our trained experts use specialist microsuction equipment. This makes microsuction a much safer and more comfortable option to remove ear wax than other methods.
